A Day In The Life.......
Aug. 30th, 2022 03:47 pmMonday was day two of State Fair visits.
With my sleep schedule really messed up, I was really tired and kind of dragging most of the day.
It was also a short day because my neighbors who help with Maggie were moving their oldest to college that day. So I pushed my luck and Maggie's bladder and stayed as long as I dared.
It was also kind of a blah food day. I tried two new things. One was a BIG hit and the other was a waste of $10.
So here is my day in photos.
First up, the waste of $10.
It was the Vanilla Dream Nordic Waffle.
To call it a waffle was a massive joke. At best it was a bumpy crepe.
The vanilla cream was yummy, but it was cold enough that where it was touching the "waffle" the "waffle" was cold as well. So the "waffle" was only warm at the edges.
And don't even get me started on the photo representation of the Vanilla Dream. It shows an actual waffle folded over and filled very full of vanilla cream.
Compare that description to my picture...

Next was a breakfast sandwich. Eggs, bacon, and cheese.
Nothing special, but better then the "waffle".

I walked through the horse barn. The draft horses were in residence.
Saw a hungry baby.

They always have a line up of stalls displaying different types of horses and this Islandic horse/pony was one they were showing.
It was actually outside the stall because they were cleaning the stall.

Then I got a strawberry "shake" from the UofM Gopher dairy bar.
They call them shakes, but it's so think you have to use a spoon because there is no way you can suck it up through a straw. lol...

After that I met up with Neil,
mrdreamjeans.
We, he, did some shopping on our way up to the pet pavilion to see the doggies.
One the way we saw some dahlias planted next to the Grandstand. I wish I had my telephoto lens to get a closer picture. I was kind of surprised they looked as good as they did after the storm they got Sunday evening.

We got to the pet pavilion and got to see a couple of the Australian Shepherd dogs running the obstacle course, and for some reason a lone cocker spaniel. lol... Then we went next door to The Hanger and I was going to get an Island Hopper which was one of the new foods last year, a half pineapple hollowed out and filled with rice, pineapple, and pork. Unfortunately, they were not going to be ready for at least another 40 minutes. Sorry, my time is valuable. We moved on.
We did some window shopping and came across the Brim(I have no idea what it means) both. They make Sammies, which I think is just a silly name for fried sandwiches. This is where I had the successful new food. It's called a Sundae Sammie. I believe it's a take on ice cream sundaes.
It's cinnamon bread filled with strawberry jam, supposedly ice cream, I didn't see or taste any, cut up strawberries, the edge is topped with whipped cream, toasted peanuts, and sprinkles.
It was YUMMY. And a while I was eating, a bee also took a fancy to it and was literally flying in my face. lol...

We stopped to check out the sunflowers at the kiddie farm.

We did some more retail therapy on our way down to the Coliseum.
One the way there we saw a flowering bell topiary.

Once we got to the Coliseum, we walked all the way around looking for the nuts stand. Finally found it. Neil got some honey roasted cashews, and I got some toffee peanuts.

Neil's foot was bothering him, so we sat in the Coliseum and watched some of the sheep herding competition.
My time was running out so we started heading to the parking lot. I was going to get some deep fried pickles for the drive home, but the line was so long, I didn't take the time. I needed to get on the road and home to Maggie.
And so day two at the fair comes to an end.

Date: 2022-09-02 02:16 pm (UTC)I know they are "safe", but I prefer rides at amusement parks that are permanent and not the traveling rides at fairs.
