My lilac bushes are having their best year since being planted many years ago.
Back Story:
I planted them as little bushes and they had a few buds and flowers on them.
Then that Winter the deer came in and nibbled at the bushes.
After that for MANY years all I got was lovely green bushes.
I finally did some research and apparently the deer nibbling on them like that can stunt flower production for years on lilac bushes.
A few years back, I got a few buds and even fewer flowers blooming.
Last year I actually got a lot of buds, but still most of them did not actually bloom
This year I again got a lot of buds and a few started to bloom, and then the hail storm came through.
I thought they were doomed.
But actually more and more buds are actually blooming. It smells so nice when I walk past the bushes.
Here are a couple of pictures of the bushes.

As you can see in the first picture, there are still some bare spots without flowers, but this is so great compared to what it was for so many years...

It's been such a long wait to get blooms. :)
It's so nice to walk up the driveway with Maggie and smell the aroma. :)

Incredible bloom this year! And the prettier lighter lavender ones! I think those smell stronger than the darker purple ones we have.

Way to go Jon. I hope those deer stay away!

A couple of days ago, I was finally going to cut a few branches to bring inside, and just like that the flowers were past their prime. :(

I love lilacs, they re some of my favorite flowers!! I really need to plant some here in my yard!! Yours are lovely
