In The News.......
Feb. 15th, 2022 10:00 amJust a few things to talk about before it gets too far behind...
Sunday at work.
It was my final shift on my station. Policy is you don't float on your last shift.
I got to work and we had a whooping 2 patients, and shockingly they actually kept me.
It helped that we had one patient that is an alcoholic and if we got an admission, I would have to sit and watch him.
Then they kept another nurse too because we were supposed to be getting a car accident victim, but he didn't come to us. So it was Charge nurse, three nurses and me for two patients. :o
Then a couple of hours into the shift the supervisor called and I thought great they are going to pull me to go work some where else, but she was actually calling to see if we would be willing to accept patients that weren't part of our service. Charge nurse said of course.
Then another unit called to see if a patient they were suppose to get shouldn't actually come to us. It should but apparently the doctors were trying to decline it. :o :o :o Easy for them to do, they get paid no matter what and they don't have to float when we are low in patients.
Anyway that patient did come to us, yippy..., another alcoholic.
And that was it for the night. The patients that the supervisor was suggesting sending to us never materialized. lol...
So I had a fairly quiet night for my last shift. We actually watched a lot of the Olympics. LOL.....
At the end of the shift my nurse manager came over to me, and AGAIN asked me how long I had been on the unit. I wanted to look him in the face and say, You have been my manager from the day I started working on the station, you tell me. And if you would do your job, I wouldn't have to be leaving the station either. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was going to talk about some other things, now what were they all?
*Russian figure skater who tested positive for a banned drug is now blaming her grandfather.
SERIOUSLY???
Yep, she says she must have taken some of his meds by mistake.
WOW, throw grandpa under the bus. :o
***************
Inflation is hitting hard.
We have been buying bags of ear corn to put out for the squirrels and the deer during the Winter time.
They have cost just short of $4 per bag. Yesterday I stopped to buy some because we had finally used up the ones we had, and they are not $6 per bag. SERIOUSLY???
It's not like we have to import the corn.
And farmers are always complaining they have too much and can't get money for it.
It should be getting cheaper.
So needless to say, somebody is making some decent profit. :o

Well, off the top of my head, I can't think of the other stuff I wanted to talk about so that's it for now.

Date: 2022-02-16 09:02 am (UTC)China has been buying up food to establish strategic reserves of grains (Wheat, Rice, Corn/Maize, etc.) as they are facing a bad harvest this year, again, from a number of causes.
Corn may have been coming from Canada not USA that you have been getting, in which case you can blame the damn truck blockades.
Corn industry is gearing up for a battle with the Government over the use of Corn in vehicle fuel... there is an effort to cut their subsidies and the rules on including it thanks to a new study that shows the carbon costs of the corn/gasoline mix fuel is actually worse than just plain gasoline. So they need to price gouge for a political campaign against changing things.
Local gouging may be happening, of course, but the futures market on it as a commodity isn't being terribly volatile.

Date: 2022-02-16 10:52 pm (UTC)Prices are skyrocketing. Gas across the street has gone from $3.14/gallon to $3.49/gallon in two days.
I'm glad your final shifts on your longtime station went so well. May you be happy on the new station and really happy that you no longer work 3 twelves on a weekend ... or any 12's for that matter.
HUGS!
