A Day In The Life.......
Nov. 22nd, 2021 08:23 pmWell, a Weekend in the Life...
I made it through the weekend, barely.
Saturday was busy.
Add into the fact that one of the nurses went home sick after barely starting the shift.
Sunday was NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nobody got a break Sunday night.
We started the night with 6 patients and ended with 9.
One of the new admissions 2-3 nurses taking care of him most of the night. He was that unstable.
And that's not good when you start the shift with each nurse having one patient to start with. I work in an ICU, so one patient per nurse is fairly standard. Until things fall apart.
So with many nurses having to help take care of that patient and another another admission being a suicide attempt, a nurse had to stay with her, most of the other patients became a group effort to take care of all of them.
Add into that mess, we were running out of supplies, IV fluids, pumps to run the IVs, IV tubing, etc etc etc...
A night like that pushes me closer to asking my manager if I can go back to working just 8 hour weekend shifts. The 12 hour shifts just mess up my sleep and then having nights like that where we are just barely getting by... Maddening.
Anyway, I am going to try and start catching up with all of you guys.
I get the feeling it's going to take awhile. :o
