May. 27th, 2019 08:35 amI went to see the new live action Aladdin last night and
I was pleasantly surprised. :)
I was most worried about Will Smith playing the Genie because he can be a bit too "Will Smith" some times, but it was a lot of worrying for nothing. I never felt that way while watching the movie. If anything there was a fair share of Robin Williams in his delivery, at least in the songs.
Speaking of songs, "Prince Ali" was quite the spectacular. The "A Whole New World" sequence was a little disappointing.
After being so worried about Will Smith, the thing that bothered me the most was their overt attempt to give Jasmine a "Girl Power" moment times two. A new song was added for Jasmine, at least I don't remember it from the stage musical. Just a little too in your face for me.
The final battle against Jafar was a little disappointing too. There wasn't much transition from Jafar, to Sultan Jafar, to Sorcerer Jafar.
Okay, that sounds like a bunch of disappointments, but really the movie was very good. Pretty sure there will be a return visit. :)
