Thursday January 31st

We landed in Honolulu a little before 2 pm.
I called the taxi company I had made reservations with and they told me were to meet them. As I was walking through the airport I saw this guy in a military uniform, and I all I can say is WOW... He wasn't really muscular like I normally like, but he was very good looking and I swear he had his uniform sewn on his body. It fit like a second skin. Hubba Hubba... :)
Anyway, found my taxi and headed for the hotel. All I can say is, I am so glad I didn't rent a car. The highway was some times as wide as at least 6 lanes in each direction. :o
Got to the hotel, the EWA Waikiki Hotel, and was checking in. The guy told me I was upgraded in rooms. I guess you could call it a suite. I was on the sixth floor in room, 613. The room had twin beds in the main room and then in a separate room there was a full/queen bed. I just used the main room and slept in one of the twin beds. :p It was an older building but not terrible, until the second day when the dang elevator wouldn't open on my floor, so I had to either go up to 7 and walk down the stairs or stop at 5 and walk up to 6. :o I wasn't impressed with the cleaning crew either. There were still whisker shavings in the bathroom sink. They took the towels I had used, but didn't replace them. Basically they did the minimum. All that said, it was in a great location. It was half a block from the Honolulu Zoo, and about 2 blocks from Waikiki Beach.
I relaxed a little bit and then thought I better get out and check out the scene. I looked out the balcony window and sure enough it was raining. So I relaxed a little longer and then finally headed out with the camera to check things out. I went down to the beach and there is a little walkway pier that I walked out to check out the view. I was able to see Diamond Head from there. :)
Then I went down on the beach and got my tootsies wet in the Pacific Ocean. I walked down the beach a ways, and then headed back towards the hotel. I needed to change shirts to put on collared tshirt to go to the restaurant I made reservations at. It was suggested that I eat at the Hau Tree Lanai. It has a beach side seating area that has these gnarled old trees in it. When the sun sets, they have lights in the trees and tiki torches. I asked for a beach side table and was lucky to get one, especially because several of the tables were out of commission because of the rain. I ordered Shrimp Scampi and a chocolate martini. The martini was yummy. The scampi came and kept the smile on my face, but it had big chunks of mushrooms in it, and I think pieces of tomatoes. Neither of which I like.
You guys will be so proud of me, I ate both. Between the sauce and the noodles, I was able to eat the mushrooms. lol.......
The employees were all very friendly. I had my camera along with me and one of the ladies stopped and talked with me telling me that she was looking at getting her daughter a nice camera like that. :) Later another young lady came out carrying a drink and kind of stopped and looked like, Which table does this go to. I had seen a guy order another one, and so I told her, I think it's that table there. A little later she walked by and thanked me for helping her out.
I left the restaurant and walked back down the beach. I guess I could mention, the restaurant is about a mile from my hotel. Anyway, I walked back down the beach I stopped into a couple of stores to see if anything jumped out at me. I picked up some postcards and a couple of bottle of water, and a pair of sunglasses because of course I forgot to pack a pair. lol... Then I started to head back towards the hotel, and I started to get a bellyache. TMI... Boy, did I get a bellyache. I got very close to not making it back to the hotel, and pooping my pants. EEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess that's what comes from dieting and then eating a relatively rich meal. :p
I relaxed in the room and watched some tv and wrote out postcards. I will take this time to ask forgiveness from my over seas friends. I totally forgot to get over sears stamps. So if you don't mind, I did bring home some postcards and I will mail them from Minnesota. :)
I watched some more tv and then fell asleep.

It may have not been the diet. I found Air Travel messed with my digestive system badly after a long flight. Something to do with the cabin pressure etc.
