To my British friends and/or fans of British television.
I just caught the end of an episode of "Good Neighbors". At the end of the episode, they started to show the studio audience and announced that it had been a Royal taping of the show and the audience stood up and the Queen and Prince Philip came down out of the audience to greet the cast and crew of the show. This was obviously several years ago looking at both their appearance and the clothing styles.
What I am wondering is, did the Queen really sit and watch the taping of a comedy show, or was this a big gag to end the episode with?

No idea. I expect she watched a part of the taping - perhaps one scene, rather than the whole episode.

I kept looking at it and thinking, is that really the Queen?
If it was an American show in this day and age, I could see them faking it.

It was very random, but I thought I would throw the question out there and see what happens. :)

I think the series was from the 70s.
Have you seen the series Rosemary and Thyme? One of the ladies from that show was in Good Neighbors.

I like to think the queen has a sense of humor and has favorite television shows just like I do ... I bet she attended ... Let us know what you find out!

Is this sort of like the scene in Shakespeare in Love where the queen stands up to applaud, but then says she isn't there because the queen does not attend plays?

Hmm, not sure I remember that scene.
In this show they came down out of the audience walked the receiving line of the actors and crew people, then left. Got into their Rolls and took off.

I haven't seen that show, but I'd think wasn't the Queen and Prince Philip, but "doppelgänger" (ordinary people who are their spitting images). I know the Queen has one in the UK, you really couldn't tell them apart.

I kept looking at her thinking, is that her?
I think Philip looked more like Philip, but then again, this was around 40 years ago. Not sure if they would be that big into spoofing way back then, would they?

I don't know, my parents were just starting puberty then - lol! But why wouldn't they be into spoofing then?

I recognize the two main ladies. One was in the show Rosemary and Thyme, and I think the other one was the main lady in the show To the Manor Born.
