Last night I went to the Argent Society Party for the Mayo Clinic, aka my employer.
The Argent Society is for employees who have worked for Mayo for 25 years or more. For those working 25, 30. 35. and 40+ years you get a meal and then the entertainment. For all others you get the entertainment.
So I was eligible for both the meal and the entertainment. After reading the menu, I skipped the meal and decided to go see the entertainment. The meal was just too Froo Froo for me. I would have been picking half of it out to not eat. Even the dessert was bleck for my tastes. They had chocolate cake with pistachio filling. What's wrong with just plain chocolate cake?
On to the entertainment, the doors were suppose to open at 6 pm and the show was suppose to start at 6:45 pm. I arrived at 6:30 pm and the show was already in progress.
Thank you so very much for waiting for everybody to arrive.
The show consisted of a Beatles tribute band. I think they were called Legends of Liverpool. Or something like that. Then the CEO came out to praise and thank us for being such great employees. I was tempted to shout out, if you love us so much, why did you close down the employee cafeterias on the weekends then? ARGH... Next was a comedian, sorry, can't remember his name. He was really quite funny though. Although it is easy to come to Minnesota and joke about our weather. lol... The main act was the OLD band The Lovin' Spoonfuls. I realize they are entertaining their old fart employees, but did they have to higher our grandparents. LOL... Okay, cruel on my part, they were still pretty good, but they didn't have a ton of hit songs. I think three of the fairly original members were still with the band. From the video below, the drummer is now one of the singers with white hair and beard. The guy on keyboards is bald. The lead guitar guy looks pretty close to that buy pretty grey. LOL...

PS: Why didn't somebody remind me to put bandaids on the back of my heels as I was wearing new dress shoes and suffered the consequences. :o

It really wasn't so much JUST plain food, but it seemed like each item of the meal had something in it that I didn't like, and it seemed silly to take food that I was going to pick through and not eat parts of it.

Thankfully, maybe, not really blisters. It just rubbed raw on the back of my heels. Ugh...

Mayo is turning into a big corporation, imho. Everything is about the bottom dollar.

I loved "Summer in the City"

in the 60's i was living in NYC
it was hot in the summer
we would go up on the roof
we would also for 15 cents take the subway down to the end of the island - for 5 cents (YES!) take the statan island ferry - get the breeze on the water - but a cone - sit in the park and eat it and enjoy Manhattan lights - take the ferry back and the subway - the whole thing cost maybe 65 cents

in the 60's i was also living in DC - no subway then - it was harder to get around - pile into somebody's car and go down to the tidal basin
or we were in far North East - there was a big field - get a bottle of wine and a couple of guitars

HAHAHA well, what do you really expect from rich employers? They really pretend they like you and say "look what we are giving you!" Sorry the night was so meh...I am curious - do you remember what the meal consisted of anyway? And honestly, I would have tried the chocolate cake with pistachio but then maybe I am more adventurous than you with desserts? Ooh, no I take that back. I saw the photos from the Minnesota State Fair. ;) xx

A salad with goat cheese and berries etc.
Peppered beef with a wine sauce and olives I think.
Chicken, don't remember everything with that.
Not sure what the other fixings were.
And then the chocolate cake.
