I finished book No. 28 this morning.
I read "Complications" by Mary King. It's the third book in her McFadden series.
This book was very emotional. Two of the college kids working for them are severally injured and become residents/patients in the house instead of caregivers.
Between being emotionally attached to these characters, and being a big softie, major tears were shed while reading this book.
Now I need to patiently wait for book 4 to be finished. :o

Oh that does sound sad! But good. She does have a way of conveying the characters where great compassion can be felt. Even by just reading the first book I noticed that.

I read The Jungle Book when I was a kid, along with Kipling's Just-So Stories (I highly recommend them!) Loved Wind in the Willows. I think the Elizabeth Taylor one sounds good...and Betty White.

I spent last summer reading the Girl Who books. They were exhausting.

Sounds like a winning series! Can I jump right in with book three or should I go back to the beginning first?

I would definitely start at the beginning. It's a running series, not really separate from book to book.

I thought it was really good.
She had a fairly rough upbringing. She was the victim of sexual assault both from the family and others. :o
Then had to fight the music industry to be herself. Which seems to often for women in the business. :(

she was born in Brooklyn, I believe and I know what things were like in the 80s back then so yes I imagine how difficult it was for her to become mainstream in the pop music industry with her look and image but she totally succeeded for awhile.

If you ever have a chance to find the "making of" of the "We are the World" video, the looks on the faces of Huey Lewis and Kim Carnes when they had to sing with her was ridiculous - they seemed to have issues with her and I think it was Quincy Jones that asked her to remove her beaded necklaces because they made so much noise in the recording as she bounced up and down singing. It seemed she was "annoying" to everyone. Pfft....I was really upset about the way she was looked at. She is wonderful!

She did talk about not fitting in at that recording and the trouble with the jewelry. :p

I got to see her way back when on her first big tour. :)
She is just an amazing lady. :)

You're not the only softie, I often cry when I read a sad bit in a book, especially if concerns an animal!
