ok. i'm not bothering to read the article...but the judge has NO BUSINESS keeping the pic of hitler in his office. the end.

but the not conducting same sex marriages? i'm not gong to bust on him for that. why? because unless he is the only person in the courthouse that will conduct a marriage ceremony, he shouldn't be forced to. marrying people is something a judge CAN do, not something a judge MUST do.

i'm ok with that, because it's no different than a minister declining to conduct a marriage ceremony. don't be a dick about it, decline politely and give your reasons politely if asked.

hell, the judge that married TheEngineer and i gave us a full-on fucking sermon beforehand, and jesus this and salvation that and i gritted my teeth, and got through it. he took the photos while he did the ceremony, so i'll give him THAT much. (the icon pic was one of them.)

I would agree only if he refuses to do all marriages, not just gay marriages. To me the Hitler picture is the telling portion of the story. :o

i'm going to gently disagree, because i DO believe that people can abide by their religious leanings...UNLESS it is an interference with their job title/sworn duties.

like that twatasaurus who refused to issue the marriage licences, you know?

But if he refuses one marriage, but not another, doesn't that interfer with his duties? Unless of course Gays are allowed to refuse him to judge a case they may be involved in.

not really. marrying people is something that judges CAN do, not something they MUST do. i know that in the courthouse where i married the ex, there was one judge who did NOT do wedding ceremonies at all. the end. would not do them.

they're required to be there (elected or appointed) to make rulings on legal issues, whether in criminal or civil court. being able to marry folx to one another is a bonus.

of course, you can get an ordination on the UU website and be able to do that in most states if you really want to.

The other employees expressed discomfort about it and he refused to take it down. He said "I'm a judge and I can do what I want." They took it down while he was on vacation. He did other appalling things like making vets with PTSD watch triggering videos.
