In the current climate, he knew exactly what was going to happen.
If he wants to carry around a Confederate flag, go right ahead. His "big mistake" was to put it on a city owner fire truck.

I just very tactlessly got corrected in a mistake I made.
I was told it was the Hayfield FD, and I guess I didn't pay close enough attention to the article as I read it. I sent off an email asking the city leaders of Hayfield to make sure the guy was let go. One of the people I emailed returned my email telling to I was wrong and I should do my research before I go off on a tantrum.
EXCUSE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If that is a volunteer company the truck is probably owned by the company itself, a private corporation, not the municipality.
Even so it was a DUMB move by someone who wanted to thumb his nose at popular opinion.

Ok, I come at this from a foreign perspective. The confederate flag is part of your history, no? Why should it be banned (isn't it part of the building of your great nation?)? I'm sure I'm missing something somewhere, but enlighten me please?

The Confederate flag was the symbol of the Confederate States and for most symbolizes Slavery. It also goes hand in hand with the KKK, the Hate group that was known for lynching Blacks across the South.
