It was a movie weekend for me.
Saturday night I saw the new DisneyNature Monkey Kingdom.
Several of the last few years Disney has released a nature inspired movie to help celebrate Earth Day.
Sadly, they don't bring in a lot of money, but Disney sure knows how to do nature films.
This year's Monkey Kingdom tells the story of a female monkey who is at the bottom rung of the hierarchy in a group of monkeys in SouthEast Asia.
During the first week of release Disney donates a certain amount per ticket sold to go towards a nature charity.
Grade: A

Sunday night I went to the special showing of the old classic The Sound of Music.
It had special showings on Sunday to help celebrate it's 50th Anniversary this year.
It was so great to see it on the big screen. :)
How can you possibly go wrong with the beautiful voice of Julie Andrews. It is a total shame that she can no longer sing. :(
There was a filmed introduction by Robert Osborne from Turner Classic Movies. He talked about how they were looking for somebody to play the part of Maria. The director asked to see some of the "dailies" from the filming of Mary Poppins, and knew right away that Julie Andrews was his Maria.
Grade: A+

I have seen GWTW a couple of times on the big screen. First time I was so disappointed that it was "small" until I realized it was released before cinemascope time. :p

So use to things being Pan and Scan on tv, so when I first saw it on the big screen, I was thrown for a loop.
I am guessing you guys don't have many IMAX theaters over there, huh? lol...

did you see the tv special on 50th Anniversary of Sound of Music
revisiting the scenes in the movie and talking with Julie Andrews about her memories of making the movie
it was COLD and often raining

We get a work discount for most movies, so Monkey Kingdom only cost me $5.75.
The Sound of Music on the other hand was $14.00. :o

Oh I'm so jealous you got to see The Sound of music on the big screen - as many times as I have seen it ( A LOT, at least 100 times) I've never seen it on the big screen. That must have been truly wonderful.
