Jun. 30th, 2014 08:54 amI know we are all suppose to support and love The troops, but this is just going too far IMHO...
Why does serving in the military get you a different/lenient judical system?
Hate me if you like for criticizing The troops, but please be nice about it.
Criminal courts tailored to veterans multiply as wars wind down
Special vets-only justice system gives second chances to those who served

Date: 2014-06-30 05:11 pm (UTC)people serving in the military in active combat roles come back fucked up. even if their body is uninjured, their mind is not always so fortunate. (i'm not saying BY A LONG SHOT that all veterans have PTSD, but a large chunk of them DO.)
shame, funding, and other reasons cause these people to slip through the cracks. or even "i keep trying to get help and get turned away", as with the recent VA fiascos. (my heart-sister? her son took YEARS of verifiable physical damage, medical records, to the VA for his shot at disability. three times they told him "you didn't send in the paperwork". or "well, it's still pending". this went on for TWO YEARS.)
yes, some people have the mental strength to get past all this. but as someone who suffers from PTSD due to child abuse, marital abuse, and rape? this shit is not easy to just "get over".
giving the courts some different options to deal with vets, and give them a better shake than the miltary side has given them? i think that's fair.
and yes, this HAS jumped on a few of my buttons, lovey. i apologise if i was harsh.

Date: 2014-07-01 12:17 am (UTC)I am sorry to say this, but your life is a case in point for me. With every thing you have lived through, and people like you, why shouldn't you be given a different set a rules to live by too? What about kids thrown out of their homes and forced to live on the streets?
I just don't see how you can single out one group of people to give special preferance to.

Date: 2014-07-01 01:12 am (UTC)if for no other reason? how about there IS no draft any longer, and these young men and women volunteered to serve their country? we have fucked them over so much for a war that DOES NOT HELP OUR COUNTRY, and ONLY serves to give to wealthy individuals.
we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one, hon. (which is ok, i don't require my friends to agree with my views on everything. *hugs and hugs*)
