while i'm sorry that the students of those catholic schools will feel the loss of good teachers, the problem is NOT that the diocese decided to tell the teachers "sign this contract or we'll unfortunately have to let you go"...the problem is that the TEACHERS forgot that they were, indeed, working for a Catholic school.

the catholic church, right or wrong, has certain beliefs. and they have the RIGHT to teach those beliefs in their school along with the other required subjects. that's just the way it IS. if you find those things distateful or against your own personal beliefs? you have the choice to not work there, and not send your children there.

now...do i think that they should WAIVE that for longstanding teachers who have never had any problems at the school? yes. but there is no law against a PRIVATE SCHOOL having their teachers meet certain standards in order to teach there.

my daughter went to catholic school in second grade. (that's where she got the nickname Miss Satan, BTW) because her grandmother was SO CONCERNED about her being a "child of divorce"? she ended up missing most of her classes BECAUSE she kept getting hauled out of class for special counseling. or as she put it "it's a good thing i'm smart, or i NEVER would have passed that year. damned twat." (her grandmother is the twat)

apparently i'm a horrible mother, and she's so traumatized by *me* leaving HIM...nevermind that he drove me into a suicide attempt within a year, and had taken her and LEFT me. nor the fact that the child listened to him abusing me for the first 10 years of her life. none of that counts, you know? *massive eyeroll*

I do have to humbly beg to differ.
You can not have an organization full of pedophiles and hide them and deny they exist, and then expect people working for you to sign morality contracts just to continue working for you.

you're talking "catholic church bad" and i'm not disagreeing with you on a LOT of it.

but MANY private christian schools have similar contracts for their teachers to teach there. and *that* is what i'm talking about, that privately funded religious-based schools have the right to set whatever rules they wish to about their teachers. as long as they are NOT taking taxpayer money, they can do that. once they take that taxpayer money, that's a different thing entirely.

it's ok if we cannot see eye-to-eye on this.

Totally agree with you, a private school/company can do whatever they feel like.
It just kills me when anybody starts preaching about morals. :( Especially in this case.
