Personally, I would prefer a nominee / justice who makes decisions based only on what The Constitution says instead of what (s)he "feels about" an issue. A Justice's own personal needs / wants should not enter into the decision.
The President does not have to satisfy the opposing party any more than if the President is a Republican. It's "We The People", irregardless of party affiliation, who the President needs to consider.
