So, I'm going to remind folks that self defense, especially in your home, is a legally protected action in most states.
If a jackbooted armed thug breaks in, day or night, and has no badge or warrant, there is no way to know who they are (even if they scream police or other claim there is no proof that its not just some random crazy in a uniform they stole or made). Defend yourself, there is no evidence that whoever it is doesn't mean to kill you.
I recommend keeping easy access to gardening and repair tools in your home in case of storm damage in this time of bad weather. Hammers, hatchets, crowbars, machetes (for clearing brush) etc.
And remember that modern body armor does not protect the legs, only the torso. Knees are very vulnerable to damage and hard to repair. It stops people from chasing you, causes a lot of pain and generally makes an opponent fall down. This is also true of people that don't wear body armor. Basic self defense course stuff, hit hard and run away while they are off balance.
In my youth I used to do security work, as a lone unarmed overnight guard, in another city. First at a city parking garage and then later at a car dealership.
We were unarmed, a cheap polyester uniform (with a coat in the winter), and a walkie talkie that barely worked in communicating to the office (and only worked from the roof of the parking garage at the first post). There was a phone on site if we needed to call the local cops, but their ability to respond to these locations was an expected 30 minutes or more in bad weather.
Between us the folks who worked the post knew that our best case situation was if something real bad happened we had to take care of ourselves. We knew where the repair tools were and where we could hide in the event of a violent encounter.
There was always a tire iron in the booth at the parking garage. Cause you never know when someone was going to have to deal with a flat tire.
It was pretty amazing how the MAGAs contorted themselves around the shooter. First he was a "Marxist Dem", then when it was revealed that he was a dyed in the wool MAGA, they got real quiet.
They live under a cloud of grievance and victimhood, but can't be bothered to try to improve their lot to get out from under it. Self-righteousness is their shield, and it's never a good thing to hide behind.
