Feb. 27th, 2012 01:51 amWell, the Oscar craze is done for another year. Minus the after parties that is. :p
I did so so in my guesses this year.
On my list of what I thought the Academy was going to choose, I got only 6 correct.
On my list of what I would have picked to win, I did better. I got 11 of them correct. That's one short of half. :) And on this list I got the Top 6 awards correct.
I think the show moved along pretty quickly. It came in I think just short of 3 hours and 15 minutes.
It was GREAT to have Billy Crystal back as the host. Sorry James Franco, but you can't even hold his coffee.
There were a couple of dud momments. One was when Will Farrell and another guy came out to give out a music award playing cymbols and kept it up through the whole portion. The other dud momment was when, I think it was Robert Downey Jr. and some young female actress came out to give an award and she starts to go off on how fun it would be to do a little song and dance skit and maybe include somebody from the audience.
Now I understand it's all written from them, but they did it. So both the writers and the actors need to be smacked up side their heads.
There was a Cirque du Soleil performance that was cool, but was kind of out of place. I think it was suppose to be honoring music in films, but I just didn't get the connection.
The In Memorium was nice as always, and I was happy that they ended with Elizabeth Taylor, but most of those remembered were done with light black/grey "drawings" against a very white background and with the lettering they used it was really hard to read their occupation.
The first few awards were getting won by the movie Hugo and I thought maybe it was going to be a landslide for the film, but once it go to the main awards The Artist took over. They both ended the night with 5 awards each, but The Artist came away with the biggies. Picture, Director, Actor.
Very happily, Meryl Streep won her third Oscar for The Iron Lady. It was her 17th nomination. That is the most for any actor.
And it was fabulous to see Christopher Plummer win the Supporting Actor award. It made him the oldest actor to win an Oscar.
I think that's a wrap. :p
