Happy Pride Weekend.....
Jul. 2nd, 2003 07:03 amFriday night was fun. I went up to see the Pride Block Party with Cyndi Lauper. It was really pretty good. There were four singing acts all together. Plus they had a group emceeing that were a riot. Basically they were a group of drag queens that did comedy skits. They did one where three of them were Jackie Kennedy and the fourth was Marilyn Monroe. LOL!!! The first two acts were pretty good, for local talent. The third was the biggest of the local talent but I didn't really think they were that good. Then Cyndi finally came out. She is amazing. You can just feel the love she has for her gay fans. The only bad thing about her show was that she wasn't playing with a live band so after her set was over she didn't have any more music to do encores to. She did do an acappella version of "I Drove All Night" with the help of the audience. It was really neat.
However, standing in a parking lot for about six hours got to be awfully long.
Saturday was again, okay. I went up to Minneapolis for the weekend. No sooner had I checked into my hotel room then it started to downpour. Yuck... So I waited for that to end and then I went down to the park to see the Festival. It was nice. But it hasn't really changed over the last three years. Because of the rain the crowd was a little smaller by the time I got down there. And several booths had closed down. Then I went and had supper at Applebees and had a great chocolate martini. Yummy. Then I went to the bar and saw the strippers. They were okay, but I am getting to enjoy listening to the music about as much as watching the strippers. Isn't that sad. LOL... I had an appletini. It is a martini with green apple booze. Interesting... Then I went back to the hotel and crashed.
Sunday, I checked out of the hotel and went and watched the parade. Apparently, findingronnie was in the parade. I wish I had known. It was okay, but kind of tame. It really should be so much more wild. After the parade I went back down to the Festival and walked around some more. I called my friend, Kevin. The last time I had seen him he told me he was getting a Harley Davidson motorcycle, and that he would give me a ride sometime. So I called to see if he was around. He was and after awhile he came and picked me up. We drove around Minneapolis. It was really nice. It was really nice of him. After he dropped me off I headed over to the Ordway Theater in St. Paul to see the show The Full Monty. It was good. I can't say that it really blew me away. But it sure blew away the rest of the audience. Standing ovation and everything. Then I just kind of headed home afterward. But it felt like I was missing something. ???
I got a little sunburned during Pride. My forearms, my nose, and my neck. One of these times I will remember to bring some sunscreen. lol...
You know I think so of the reason Pride felt so empty this year was because I didn't have all the "drama" that I had last year. THANK GOD!!!
I think the fag hag has obviously told people about the letter I gave her. I saw her husband and a mutual friend on Sunday a couple of times and they never made any indication that they recognized me. However, Saturday night at the bar I ran into another friend that fell out of friendship with that group (fag hag and stripper). So we talked a little and realized we were now in the same boat. Well, their loss not ours. Right?
