Last night we bought our first toy just for Charlie, now that Dante and Rupert are gone. He was very happy with it!

He's really strange, but he had a strange upbringing. The original owner raised show dogs, and Charlie (full name Desert Oasis Charlie Brown) didn't make the grade, so he was given to Arizona Poodle Rescue and subsequently we got him. We have this green spikey 'bone' that he carries around the house after meals, but he whines while doing it! He's happy, yet he whines! And when we gave him the new toy, he was playing with it and whining!

I think his upbringing was really screwed up and his emotional development is equally messed up. He's a nice boy, though.

I hate it when rescue people do that. They should look for a good home on their own THEN start breeding again, sigh.

Maybe it's a happy cry, how funny! I have never heard of that.

We received a 'family tree' printout in his adoption papers: every litter had group names.  So all of Charlie's littermates were 'Desert Oasis' something.  I don't remember if they were all Peanuts characters or not, but that was a possibility.  We have lots of names for him, I frequently call him Sir Charles of Wigglesbutt.  Yeah, dog breeders can be a nasty bunch.  Our first rescue poodle, Celeste, came from a breeder.  When her mate died, she became nasty and they had to get rid of her.

Celeste's full AKC name was Celestial Princess Darkstarr - I believe with two rr's.  She was called Princess, and that was a complete non-starter for us.  Celeste was a perfectly acceptable and great name for an astronomer's dog!  She was quite amusing.  She would pick up one shoe: chew on it a little, get scolded, then 'Well, maybe I can chew on the other shoe that's just like it!'  Eventually she stopped chewing.  Once she was away from the other dogs, she was a wonderful dog for us.  She had problems with thunderstorms, a calming shirt helped quite a bit.  She loved going on long car drives with us.
