Book Reading.......

Given some spare time, and a good book, and you can quickly add one to the finished column. :)

I just finished reading my next book, No. 6.
I read "As Old As Time: A Twisted Tale" by Liz Braswell. It's the third of the Disney books putting a twist on some of their famous fairy tales.
This one is about Beauty and the Beast. It tells the tale of what would it be like if Belle's mom was the enchantress who cursed the Prince into the Beast.
Of the three books put out so far, I have to say this is by far my favorite. Maybe I am partial because of the new Beauty and the Beast movie that just came out, but if feels like the best told story of the three.
The book begins by alternating chapters between the known story of Beauty and the Beast and the story of Belle's mother and what led up to her putting the curse on the young Prince. As the story of the curse being place comes to an end, the book continues with the known story, but with the twists of the new book.
The old kingdom started as a safe haven for all enchanted people and creatures, but then fear began to arise among the "normal" people and their King and Queen, who feared for their "power". At the same time the plague began to creep over Europe and of course that was blamed on the enchanted beings as well. They started to be attacked, and soon they started to disappear. Eventually the remaining ones began to move out of their "safe" kingdom. No matter how hard the King and Queen tried they couldn't keep the plague out of their kingdom and soon they called for Belle's mother, the strongest enchantress, to come back and save them. Unfortunately, she couldn't let her anger over their treatment of the enchanted from fogging her thoughts. She refused to help, but was touched enough to cast a spell that saved the children of the castle. The King and Queen died and left their 10 year old son in charge. Like most royalty he was raised in an atmosphere of privilege. So when Belle's mother comes back to test his, as the old story begins, he rebuffs her and she changed him into a Beast. Kind of a hateful thing to do to an 11 year child.
Then the "original" story returns with a few twists added to fill things out.

It was really cool.
Must be kind of the reason I like the new movie with the added stuff. :)
I do hope I don't fall asleep in the theater tomorrow morning. LOL........

Worse during a movie. I think it's so annoying when you have employees walking up and down the stairs during movies to check out the theaters. ARGH......
