Well, I guess I can scratch something off my bucket list of things I never expected to do.

Last night at work I took out a patient's tongue piercing. :o

The patient was unconscious, intubated, and scheduled to have an MRI, so he really wasn't in any position to be removing his own tongue piercing. :p

Why do people get them, and how can they stand that in their mouths? :o

Well he doesn't have a tongue piercing anymore, since that hole closes up within 20 minutes after removal of the metal. I have a tongue piercing, but I didn't get it for the aesthetics, if you get my drift. :P

You get used to it quickly, actually, and don't even notice it anymore.

which is why you should always carry an acrylic retainer with you, in case of such emergencies.

(i have a fresh cartilege [ear] piercing and a nose piercing that i've got retainers for.)

Like someone above said, you get used to it quickly and after a while, you hardly notice it.

Prince Albert and Tongue were the first two piercings I got (and on the same night at the same time :). Those are the only two I have remaining as well, all of the others grew out...

Leaving that aside, I wouldn't be able to have it in my tongue, because I'd be paranoid to swallow it. Not that it would be a big issue, but still it would make me paranoid.

That has always been my worry, not that I would ever do it.

Just my opinion and I'm not judging anyone who gets them but - it doesn't make sense to me for any reason to have these piercings - tongue, cheek, lip, eyebrow, forehead, vaginal/penile or between the fingers or toes.

I'm an artist and I have a couple of tattoos and ear piercings. Nose piercings are pretty but the others don't seem to have any aesthetic of beauty for me.

However, I'm sorry for those of you that has things ripped out of you by medical "professionals"! Pain! Hugs to you!
