This past Tuesday I went up to Minneapolis to see the musical, "Sunday in the Park With George" at the Guthrie Theater. I had the pleasure of seeing it with the dear LJ friend [personal profile] later2nite. She came all the way out from Las Vegas to share this with me.
"Sunday in the Park With George" is about the artist George Seurat and his relationships with the people in his life as he painted the picture A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. It is probably his most famous painting. Sadly, he never sold any works while he lived and he died quite young. The second act of the musical takes place in the 1980s, I believe, and Randy then plays George's great grandson George.
The actors, singing, and costumes were all FANTASTIC. Linda and I couldn't have had better seats, front row center. :o
The show starred Randy Harrison, made famous by playing Justin in the US version of Queer as Folk. I had recently seen him play the emcee in "Cabaret" as well. He is a very talented actor and singer, and did a great job in the role of George.
Erin Mackey played George's girlfriend and she had an amazing voice.
I would be so tempted to go back and see it again, but it closes tomorrow afternoon. :(

Here is a link to the theater's production:

It's been awhile since I have updated my reading list. I got the 14th read, and then finished the 15th, and thought I might as well wait until I finished the 16th as that was the end of The Long Earth series I was reading.
It is really so hard to describe these books, so I am going to wimp out and not try too hard.
I really did enjoy reading them, but very often it felt like kind of empty reading. They spent a LOT of time talking about stepping/traveling through the thousands and millions of different Earths. Even when they were actually stopping on the different Earths big portions of the books were filled with talk about it.
The last two books actually felt like they were becoming more story driven.
One of the interesting parts was we were told of the history of the main character, Joshua's family and how stepping was happening back then.
Okay, I am not going to try harder because I fear I would still be writing for another month and going in circles trying to describe things. On a good day, I am not great at reviewing things.
Anyway, would I recommend The Long Earth series? Yes.
If you are a big fan of Terry Pratchett's DiscWorld series, don't really expect that.
Have you stopped reading this yet? LOL....................
